BRANNSTROM - 15 ppm Bilge Alarm | Sinco Marine

15 ppm Bilge Alarm
Main Feature
      • Unique system on board replacement the measuring cell
      • Measuring cell simple to replace due to wireless design
      • Easy to operate due to only 4 push buttons
      • User friendly menu
      • Compact design
      • 32 character LCD with LED background light
      • Relays and input are protected by "PTC" resistor fuse. Fuses are reset by disconnecting the power supply - no regular fuse to replace
      • System running status shown in LCD in real time
      • Suitable for new building and existing ships
      • Can be attach to any Oily Water Separator type
Bilge Alarms for the marine market, are designed to measure the oil content in contaminated bilge water, in accordance with the MARPOL regulations.
The 15 ppm Bilge Alarm type BilgMon 488TM, is designed to meet and is certified in accordance with the new IMO resolution MEPC.107(49)
The oil content is often measured by the use of scattered IR-light, and this unit has a unique measuring cell for receiving and analysing a continuous sample flow through the cell. The measuring cell can easily be maintained or exchanged by the onboard crew.
All sample data is transferred into the processor of the unit, which after processing gives a PPM-value of the oil content which is presented at the display. Process data is stored within the units memory module. If the oil content exceeds the 15 PPM limit, the unit will activate an alarm, and stop the overboard discharge.

Bilge Monitoring & 15 ppm Bilge Alarm

Bilge Monitoring - 15ppm Bilge Alarm

A 15ppm Bilge Alarm is normally used in connection to a ship's oil filtering equipment (also known as "bilge water separator"), monitoring the oil content of the separated/filtered water and stopping the discharge into the sea if the oil content exceeds 15ppm (parts per million).
The 15 ppm bilge alarm type "BilgMon 488" is type approved for this purpose according to latest IMO Rules MEPC.107(49).
Furthermore the 15ppm bilge alarm can in principle be used as a simple oil content alarm for other applications where the water does not contain solids or other substances disturbing the operation.

Cheaper to Replace than Repair

When a complete new bilge water separator is delivered to an existing ship or to a new building, the separator already contains a 15 ppm bilge alarm. However, when the 15ppm bilge alarm on an existing ship is broken beyond repair, or repairing the bilge alarm would be almost as expensive as a new one, the best solution is to replace the old alarm with a new one.
Contact our expert for more information about utilization, implementation and price.

Simple to Install

The BilgMon 488 is compact and simple to install as a replacement for most old 15ppm alarms. The ship's crew can normally do it in less than an hour. A competitive price and immediate availability makes it an attractive choice for any ship having trouble with the old 15ppm bilge alarm.
  • Simple design
  • Easy to operate
  • Compact system, optimal for a retrofit
  • Fast delivery
  • Competitive prices

Rules and Regulations for 15 ppm Bilge Alarms

According to MARPOL Annex I, ships of 400 gross tonnage and above must be fitted with a bilge water separator, and on ships of 10000 gross tonnage and above the bilge water separator must additionally be fitted with a 15 ppm bilge alarm. However, ships between 400 and 10000 gross tonnage are also required to have the 15ppm alarm in order to be allowed to operate the bilge water separator when the ship is in one of the following "Special Areas" as defined by MARPOL.
  • The Mediterranean  Sea
  • The Black Sea
  • The Baltic Sea and the North West European waters
  • The Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden
  • The Arabian Gulf
  • The Oman area of the Arabian Sea.
For details see Reg.14 & 15 of MARPOL Annex I (Consolidated Edition 2006).
Ships built before 2005 may operate with equipment meeting the requirements of older IMO Rules, but ships built in 2005 and later must be fitted with bilge separators and 15ppm bilge alarms type approved According toMEPC.107(49).
For details see paragraph 1.3 of MEPC.107(49).

ODMCS - Oil Discharge Monitoring and Control System

The CleanTrack ODMCS-system is a monitoring system for the control of discharged ballast water from tankers and chemical tankers. The system is certified by the marine authority, as well as several different classification societies.
International IMO-resolution A.586(14), as presented under the MARPOL convention is determining the maximum allowed discharge levels, and the system CleanTrack 900TMis designed to meet these regulations. Furthermore, the same system has been certified and approved in accordance with the new IMO resolution MEPC.108(49) coming into force from January 1st 2005, under the name of CleanTrack 1000TM. Both theCleanTrack 900TM and the CleanTrack 1000TM have been tested and approved for a number of Oil-Like Substances. TheCleanTrack 1000TM has several different options for the shipowner and the yard to select the best possible system for each ship.
The CleanTrack systems meets the high demand for a reliable, and low maintenance cost system, which will endure the hard conditions prevailing onboard a tanker. The computer is supplied with the latest version of the IMO-regulations programmed into the software, which easily can be updated when the IMO regulations are changed. All components exposed to the cargo, or to the salt water environment are made of corrosion resistant material.

Turbidity meter

The BTM-2000 turbidity meter consists of 2 major parts. One is the measuring cell for obtaining data from the sample flow running through it, and the other part is the process computer which is evaluating the input data.
Turbidity is normally measured by the use of scattered IR-ligth, and the BTM-2000 has a measuring cell which utilises 3 different IR-light receivers in order to in line determine the degree of turbidity. A sample flow of approx. 5 l/m is put through the cell, all sample data is transferred into the processor of the unit, which after processing gives a NTU-value of the turbidity on the display.
There is an alarm function available to be set at requested level, giving an alarm when the selected value is met. Alarm limits can be set at both high and low alarms. The 2 different displays at the front are showing the momentary NTU-value, and an average NTU-value. Calibration on site is available with the BTM-2000 unit.

System enclosure/Dosage unit

In combination with the supply of processors, Brännströms is involved in the assembly and supply of large size cabinets. These cabinets are often for installation as a part of, or complete package of the total hardware supply of enclosures with built-in processors for surveillance and control.
Very often the processor unit handling the data is integrated into the large size cabinet for simpler wiring connection work and for saving cost and space. In addition there is a big advantage by having the complete unit checked and tested as one piece, before delivery.
One application for the Brännström monitoring processors is to be built-in to a "stand alone" cabinet, such as the BDU-unit, which is designed for monitoring and running a complete dosage system, mixing flocculation polymer chemicals into the sewage water system.
The unit is monitoring mixers, transport pump, heavy sewage plant equipment, and water flow indicator, for adding correct amount of chemical at all times, and to control the high and low alarm functions in the mixing storage tanks on site. All system electrical components for the system are assembled into the cabinet, and all units are work shop tested, together with the built-in processing unit, before delivery.

Water treatment-purification/Sewage plant/paper mill/process industry

This section of our product presentation have on display different systems for specific applications, covering different working areas, such as control system for swimming pools, control system for community sewage treatment plants and for paper mill process plants.
These units are governing a part of the complete process, providing running and alarm data, and will also actively start and close pumps, valves as well as store data from different kinds of sensors in the systems.
